System requirements
MacnifyIt is one universal app for every Mac running macOS 12 or later. Enlargement is exact arithmetic on your photo’s pixels, so it does not need a fast machine.
macOS
macOS 12 Monterey or later: 12 Monterey, 13 Ventura, 14 Sonoma, 15 Sequoia and 26 Tahoe. The current pre-release build has been tested on macOS 26.6 only; testing on macOS 12 on both processor types is planned before launch.
Processor
Intel or Apple silicon. One universal app; Rosetta is not needed.
Memory and output size
Exports are processed in bands to keep memory use bounded. Output is capped at about 400 megapixels per image (for example 8× of a 6-megapixel photo). A 4× export has 16 times the pixels of the source, so large enlargements need free memory and disk space to match.
Disk space
The app is small; the exact download size is shown next to the download button. Exports are saved next to the originals, or where you choose.
Input formats
JPEG, PNG, TIFF, HEIC and WebP, 8-bit or 16-bit. Animated GIF and HDR images are not supported.
Output formats
PNG, JPEG or TIFF. 16-bit sources stay 16-bit in PNG and TIFF. Embedded colour profiles and supported metadata are kept, orientation is preserved, and GPS data can be removed.
Finder menu
MacnifyIt ▸ Enlarge 2×, 4× or 8× in Finder’s right-click menu is a Finder extension. Switch it on from the app’s first-run screen, or in System Settings under Extensions.
Internet
None for the free trial or for enlarging photos. A paid licence is activated online and renews quietly about once a month when the Mac is online. Photos are never uploaded.
Language
English.
These are the requirements of the current pre-release build and may change before launch. The Download section shows the exact file, version and checksum.
